As with any ethnic group, certain issues can arise, but if you know how to deal with those issues, matchmaking can be an easy process. The United States is filled with available single people and one avenue they choose to take in their search for Mr. or Mrs. Right is often done with the help of online dating. The United States certainly lives up to its reputation of being a melting pot of different ethnic groups and that includes the very first people who lived in American, the American Native.
Not one person of any ethnic group is happy to see that anyone is prejudice. It shows immaturity and a vast lack of respect. As with any ethnic group, the one aspect of most online dating sites is that they often have choices one checks off as to which ethnic groups they would consider there match to be in. While searching through the dating site and spotting someone that a person feels they may be interested in, it is often upsetting and insulting to then see that they have checked off that they are not interested in people of your ethnic group.
An American native may not find this happening as often as in the cases of other ethnic groups; however it is still an issue that should be addressed. As a Native American Indian, if a person runs into a person of prejudice, it is often best to write that person off as ignorant and go on about your search. Hopefully, as the present day world becomes more and more of a mix, this type of situation will not occur.
In turn, an American Native may feel that they should only date within their ethnic group. This is often instilled into them by older generation family members. Considering the events that the American Native race has had to go through in the history of the United States, it is understood that some may feel this way. However, the world is becoming smaller and smaller and to limit oneself to only one ethnic group is to severely limit the people you would be allowing yourself to meet.
It is difficult enough to meet someone. If you limit that search by ethnic reasons, you may miss out on a potential wonderful mate. Each and every person, including an American Native should be proud of their heritage and know that they are unique and special. If another person cannot appreciate that uniqueness, they are most likely not worth your effort in the first place.

As an American Native, a person may feel that they are at some type of disadvantage. However, it is best to forget about ethnic differences and instead pay attention to what is really important. Relationships thrive when two people have respect for each other, show kindness, caring and support. Communication is an important key element and the ability to compromise. If someone is lucky enough to find those qualities in another human being, it really does not matter if the are an American Native, an African American, Caucasian or otherwise. Look for the qualities that really matter and you open the door for the potential of a wonderful relationship.
